My uncles GC's and Indian passports were stolen a few years back. it took them 6 months to get a new card, you cannot leave the country. Other than that they did not have major issues. File a police report keep copies of the report and all correspondence in safe deposit box. As a precaution put a hold on your credit at the 3 credit agencies.

We are devastated. We got robbed last weekend. We lost everything including our green cards. After 6 years of wait, we got the cards in May. Unfortunately, we did not make any photocopies. We applied for replacement of cards using I-90 forms. Has anyone been in such a situation ?

If your previous company has closed down, there isnt any way you can port the PD.
PD transfer can be done if you have an approved I-140. Since you didnt reach that stage and also since the company is no longer around ( which kills any possibility of filing 140 with them ) , you wouldnt be able to port your PD.
Also for PD transfer through approved I140, your job responsibilities, your location of work etc do not play any role.

I just renewed my H1B visa for another 3 years, and I also have an approved advance parole document. If I leave the US before my H1B visa is stamped in my passport and re-enter the country using my AP, do I lose my H1B status? (that's what my attorney says)
How about my the H4 of my wife? She is already using EAD, so if we re-enter the country should she use the AP document or the H4 visa?

If your "hunk of junk" tripod wiggles, try using a remote release and/or use the timer to trip the shutter. "Hunk of junk" tripods that wiggle can also be stabilized by hanging a weight from the center column. A weight can be as simple as a small bag of sand or rocks.

I have got EAD and AP.I think i would not have got them if the 140 is not filled.
I also know the date on which he filled. but employer is not sharing the receipt because there is no mandate for him to do so.
I wanted to know is there a way out.
Did you try calling USCIS customer service number? You just have to get lucky. Some customer service people are nice & some are just plain rude. (I have had both experiences just today )

Hello,
My wife is out of the country right now and planning to return in 3 weeks. She left the country with both copies (we only received 2 copies) of AP that is valid until Sept 10th 2009. Unfortunately we don't have a photocopy of the AP document and she has misplaced the two copies she took along with her. How do we approach this situation. The doc's we do have handy are:

Is there are rule governing how far in advance( before the current EAD expires) we can apply for EAD renewal? Is it ok to apply 7 months in advance?
The usual thumb rule for USCIS is 6 months in advance for any renewal or extensions.

I don't mean to hijack the thread and my PD is 2010 anyway but I have a question also.
We know that we need to get all this vaccination thing done during 485 stage and a civil surgeon does that. But do we need to get all this done/verified at our regular physician before we go to the civil surgeon?
All of us have these polio, measles thing done but we don't have a record to show. So does the doc give us new/follow up shots to fulfill the criteria...and we take that to the civil surgeon.

even if the I 140 address goes to an old address of the compnay why would it go back to USCIS. would it require a signature for it to be delivered ??

I got my answer, the very next question talks about I-140 withdrawl and its impact on the AOS application if job changed using portabiliity within 180 days of filing.
