Typical promotion of homosexuality. What else is new. They gotta find new ways to bankrupt us here in California.

I'm beginning to think that on a lonely, quiet Friday night this is the most action that Calidude can hope for.

    I'm 50 ... and married, Calidude.

    What's your excuse?

The house is a little bigger than those drawings depict, as there are stairs leading to a downstairs that is not shown. Probably to the 5th bedroom that is mentioned, likely a downstairs guest room of sorts or something.

Agree with everyone else though. Simple, not over the top. I like.

I like, too. I noticed the stairway leading downward as well. Could be a guest room or workout/fitness room.

In addition, I would wager that there will be a small server room/alcove down there: a Mac mini or Mac Pro server (mini is more likely), with a couple of external hard drives (Drobo, perhaps?), wired to the latest AEBS and positioned directly underneath the living room. This would allow running Ethernet up to the living room TV, equipped of course with the new :apple:tv. That provides a solid Gigabit connection for streaming movies, and plenty of WiFi bandwidth for the master suite. An AirPort Express, set to Bridge mode, will likely be placed near the three smaller bedrooms for better Wi-Fi coverage at that end of the house.

He didn't say everyone who cries foul is a hater.

Yet it has become the norm in these forums to label anyone who doesn't like or agree with a decision, design, product, etc. a 'hater'. It's lazy and ignorant.

I noticed most of the criticism stems from the changes in iCal and Address Book which are both disgusting. Sadly they havent changed yet

I positively loathe the look of the "new" iCal and Address Book. It looks like a design from the mid 90's. I cannot comprehend how a company who goes for a clean, smooth, modern aesthetic could produce a faux leather interface and think that meshes with that aesthetic. This is something I would expect from Palm or Microsoft. But Apple? I'm amazed by how off the mark this is.

So maybe, just maybe you fandroids out there, Apple had the foresight to design an ecosystem that just works and do it the right way.

Seems like as the Android OS gets bigger, it moves more in the direction of being like iOS.

I've been taking screenshots of when they connect to my network and writing down who is home in the neighborhood when it is connected. Also have my router set to log IP addresses just in case.

    Excellent! :)

I'm not too sure about stealing internet in this area. Its a college town with a ton of apartments so I'm sure there is a lot of it going on. Whether the police do anything about it or not is a mystery to me.

This is kind of a tricky situation... it's stealing, but if you allow it to happen you basically suck. :P

When I last went home to visit parents, I found an open router called "linksys" and I connected to its conf page using the default login/password and changed the SSID to "open_router_please_hack_me" ;)

I searched the thread but couldn't find this anywhere but... Apple is having a sale in Australia too!!! We never ever get these kind of sales and now we are getting one. 1st of December for us but WE TOO ARE GETTING A SALE.

After a quick look around the forums it appears as though other places like the UK are getting a sale on the 1st too. Nice to see Apple going a bit more global with this stuff.

    Let's do this math...
    $1,810,330 - $94,070.00 = $1,716,260.00 stock worth.

I have not sold one share. Now who is laughing. Thank you iPod.

Does this mean you're buying lunch for all of us? :)

FWIW, I regret not buying some AAPL a long, long time ago...didn't do it because my employer makes it a major hassle to own individual stocks because they apply stricter financial reporting requirements (if I were to set up an automatic monthly purchase, I'd have to report it every month, run it up through management for signatures *every* month, etc, etc. Very painful).

Okay, you've got me. Pirating stuff is fun and nobody will ever get to you. And if they do it's still fun since you don't get a criminal record. And if you got one then it would be totally unfair. Man, I am a total idiot for even considering to buy stuff. You know, pay money for it.

Don't put words in our mouths. If you're going to make the moral argument against piracy, make it. I just don't agree with trying to fearmonger by saying that the feds are going to bust your door down and impound your hard drives.

Don't confuse condoning piracy with pointing out incorrect statements.

Being a die hard Apple/Mac guy, it killed me when Apple went to ATT, as I was Verizon and really liked their service. a week and a half ago, my phone failed, one of our lines was out of contract, so I finally got a 3GS 16gig. it's so amazing (to me, i'm new:) that I guess I'll stick with it, most of the time I'm in the country (rural CT and FL) and have had no dropped calls. From this thread I'm guessing dropped calls are a problem in metropolitan areas?
If I could have had some clear answer from Verizon, even a "maybe by midsummer" I'd have kept patiently waiting. But all the Verizon reps, both stores and call center, said "I've heard NOTHING of us getting an iPhone"
Just my luck if it comes out in March, and I'm locked into ATT:)
One other thing I find strange seeing that ATT and Verizon are the two largest cell company's in the US, is why still, There is no ATT coverage in the western states (ie Montana, Wyoming etc) only Verizon? any idea why ATT is not expanding out there after all these years?

    Overall thoughts......meh......
    1. No new iphone....just software updates
    2. No new AppleTV...just software updates
    3. A wireless backup hard drive......
    4. A super thin laptop...but the SSD version is over $3000

I think Mac fans were thinking new iphone, new AppleTV, some tablet

Basically we got a super expensive (albeit nice) thin laptop....

Oh please. Explain to me why race is not a valid comparison?

Also, feel free to read a few more of the defining characteristics of a mammalian "female"...

"The mammalian female is characterized by having two copies of the X chromosome as opposed to the male which carries only one X and one smaller Y chromosome."

I have no problem with transgendered/sexual/vestite/whatever, but to claim you are actually a "woman" when you were born with a penis, have two X chromosomes, and can not, nor could ever produce an ova is ridiculous.

Just as ridiculous as my original example which you decided to brush away with no basis other than it does not fit with your views.

So now you're going with chromosomes, fab, you should let the intersex community know they're not entitled to be women or men anymore as they don't conform to your grade school understanding of sex and gender.

[SIZE=1]I seem to remember Mac OS X was touted as Apple's platform "for the next 20 years" when it was introduced. So it's only halfway finished!

I think Jobs said that it is "the software platform for the next one and a half decades". But whatever. I don't think that there will be another OS X after "Lion" - there must be a reason why they named it after the "king of the animals".

They will either merge iOS and OS X into something new or they will simply drop OS X altogether in favor of iOS. Since iOS is much more successful than OS X ever was and since it is getting more and more features and we are currently being trained - or better: conditioned - to even obtain our development tools through the AppStore, an "open" platform like OS X will very soon become obsolete for Apple.

I would prefer the cheaper and more effective way; profiling.

Also, you can't say security has been working well-- look at the number of incidences of things going through security accidentally via negligence (knives, guns, etc)-- while there's no official numbers, the anecdotal evidence is quite moving.

Actually, there is documented evidence (which I'm not going to look up, because it supports your contention). The TSA does publish numbers (though buried deep in their reports) on the number of times undercover agents are able to slip weapons through security on training/testing runs. The number is quite high, if you look at it in a "Sky is falling way". But that is the incomplete picture.

Suppose, just for argument's sake, you actually have a 50/50 chance of slipping something through security. Is that "good enough" to mount an operation? Consider that there are at least a dozen people involved, to support just one operative. You can try to separate them into cells - but that doesn't mean that they are entirely hidden... it just gives them time to try to escape while their links are followed. Plus, there is a lot of money involved.

Do you risk those 12 people, plus a large chunk of scarce resources, on a venture that only has a 50/50 chance of getting something onto the plane. (we haven't even considered that most bombs on planes lately have not gone off properly, eg. shoe bomber and underwear bomber)... or that if the intent is to forcibly take over the plane there might be sky marshall - or just a plane load of passengers who are not going to sit idly by.

So you try and reduce that risk by making the plan more "fool proof" and sophisticated - but this adds complexity ...and complex things/plans breakdown and require more resources and more people. More people means adding people with doubts, and the chances of leaking. Plus more resources, which brings attention to the operation. And as you add more people and resources, the "downside" to being caught gets bigger, so you try to reduce that risk by making it even more "foolproof".

If you are one of the 12+ people supporting the operative, and you have a 50/50 chance of being caught and spending a very long and nasty session in jail - even before you get your day in court - and you have no chance of the "ultimate reward" .... don't you think you might start having doubts, and talking to people? Sometimes the wrong people?

I don't buy for a minute all of the stories of traffic cops stopping a car for a routine check and finding "bad things" that were going to be used. The intelligence services have, imho, a pretty good idea of what is happening in these groups, and use these innocent looking traffic stops (and other coincidental discoveries) so that their undercover agents aren't suspected.

That is the value, imo, of the security checks. The barriers are are high enough to get the "bad" operations big and cumbersome, and to make the plans too complex to escape notice by the authorities. It's the planning and organization of getting past the security checks that the authorities are looking for. Once that "bad thing" is in the airport, the authorities have already lost most of the game. Then the security screening is just a last ditch attempt to catch something.

The real danger is the single lone-wolf person with a grudge, who hasn't planned in advance, and doesn't really care if they get caught. They have a 50/50 chance of getting through because the only security layer at that point is the security checkpoint. The intelligence services will not have picked them up, nor will the no-fly list incidentally.

.... all of this is just mho, of course..... read the later john lecarre though, for more chilling details....

Why are you so adamant that they will use 4S instead of 5?

-The 3GS had an identical appearance to the 3G, but with upgraded internals, hence the S.
-A 3.7" iPhone would not have an identical appearance to the iPhone 4 by virtue of the screen size alone, so there would be no reason to simply add an S.
-3G is a feature description, adding an S might make some sense there as it could also be considered a "feature description". 4 is a revision number, why would they add an S to that? 4.5 or 5 would make more sense.
-The iPhone 4 and iOS 4 were launched in the same time frame, it makes sense for the numbers on each to match up. What's next? iPhone 5 and iOS 5 of course. I don't know why they'd stray from matching revision numbers so quickly after finally achieving them.
-If they plan on calling the phone after this 6, why would they skip 5, which sounds like a bigger upgrade than 4S?

As far as I'm concerned, 4S is the least likely name possible for the next iPhone. iPhone 5, 4G (LTE), 4.5 (very unlikely), and plain "iPhone" all have a much greater chance than 4S (with 5 being the most likely). I just spent way to much time on this minor issue though.

    Yes, you definitely did. Lol

Thats just the NT version. Windows 8 will be 6.2

    7 was 6.1,
    Vista was 6.0
    XP was 5.0

Technically Windows 7 is the 10th version of Windows, if you don't count Windows Server.

Windows 7 is the 7th version if you count from Windows 95.
According to Wikipedia, Windows 8 will be NT version 6.2, not 7.0 - just in case you were wondering.
