as long as you have money...theyll sell it to you..trust me

Im hoping that the lines arent too bad. I pre-ordered online..although it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Im really hoping that the lack of a subsidy and the fact that they are shipping them from the website will make the lines almost nonexistent.....but im thinking thats probably not gonna happen. I dont even know when my local mall opens..i guess they would open early enough to let people line up? who knows..

you can add ram, hard drives, displays, etc. all after you get the computer. i'd recommend getting the dual processor because you can't upgrade to that later on.

i think dv lets you capture roughly 5 minutes for every 1 gigabyte of hard drive space. you could probably only capture 350 minutes with the 80 gig hard drive. so upgrade later :)

and... i like .mac... if you do get it... you should sign up under me... ;) brandonkish@mac.com

    Hi all,

I recently purchased the new 2011 MBP and a friend provided me with a cracked, full version of iWork which was installed as normal and required a serial number which worked successfully.
My MBP is now telling me that there are software updates available for it however I was wondering if anyone knows if I perform the software update will my version no longer work (i.e. will apple know I did not buy the product and it won't let me use iWork anymore)?

    Thanks
    Daniel

I know it can be done so do not post saying it's impossible, there are adapters that allow you to and ones to play it connecting it to your MBP then to the apple display, but how could I do that? What adapters would I need and how steep of a price am I looking at?

So, who's lining up tomorrow? If all goes as planned, I should be at the Eaton Centre's Apple Store at 1PM, hopefully it won't be too late. Anybody there as well? :D

By using a 3rd party application. Here are 2 choices.

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17924

You might also consider creating a password protected disk image (don't store the password in your keychain  ). And then mount it, copy your.. umm.. sensitive material into it... and then unmount it. Next time you mount it, you will be prompted for the password.

Connection Error: Could not connect to MySQL instance at localhost. Error: Unknown system variable 'sql_mode' (code 1193) I have the exact same error. I attribute it to something I don't know that I'm doing wrong. Perhaps someone can shed some light?

Wasn't this already known? My (somewhat) fuzzy memory seems to recall that Time Team were there for 6 summers and found this, along with a ceremonial route, evidence of many, many structures (wooden and stone) and lots and lots of human remains in the immediate area surrounding Stonehenge.

Have 2 cards to choose from:

ATI Mac Edition 7000 PCI for $40
ATI Mac Edition 9200 PCI for $80

Both mint and tested (receipt for warranty available as well I believe but would have to dig through files).
Sorry, like I said before ^^ I need a low end card, probably like a ATI Rage that I just need to display video, no gaming.

EDIT: If you choose .htaccess files, do _not_ use 744 or 755. You want these to be 644, maximum.

Would you care to elaborate on this, and its security implications?

Also, if you modify your httpd.conf file (which *is* the best method, but rarely available in shared hosting environments), don't forget to restart Apache ;)

The simple answer is that if your company is not making enough money to pay a trademark attorney, you don't need a trademark... these are business protections, and without revenue you have little to protect.

Even if you did pay for a trademark, it does not appear you would be able to protect yourself in court (a potentially far more expensive process)... this means that your trademark would soon be invalid because if you do not actively protect your trademark, you lose it.

The high cost of some of these processes can be seen as a deterrent to trademark squatting... not that much different than the people who buy up domain names hoping that someday they will be valuable.

In terms of your specific company (r.e. your PM), because of the strong possibility that many other entities share the same name, I do not think that you would be allowed to take ownership or copyright over it.

Agree, those who don't understand copyright or trademark should either read

    http://www.copyright.gov/ and http://www.uspto.gov/

    or hire a professional.

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, having used PC for the past 10 years. I have a 500gb WD external hard drive with all my pictures and music from my old microsoft laptop. When I access the hard drive on my new mac I can see all the old pictures and music but then cannot add any new files. I have read up and now realise this is not possible because of the formatting of the hard drive. I just wanted to know what my next options are.
Is there a way to reformat the hard drive without losing all of my songs and pictures? And then combine both PC pictures and songs with the new songs on my Mac? Or do I have to buy another hard drive and keep the PC and mac files separate?

If you have any advice or recommendations they would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

just to clarify, i'm not asking for advice in if I should invest. I understand concerns that apple has hit an all time high, but I strongly believe it will only increase in the next year.

If anyone has any advice as to how I can do this that would be great.

Call your local discount broker's office- TD Ameritrade, eTrade and ask them if it's possible.

Not sure if I am going too far. If your web server supports php, as most do, try including this.

    <?php require_once('menu.html'); ?>
where menu.html is the file which your menu is located.

If you are unfamiliar with php or programming, start off with a blank page to test it out. Then proceed to put that code in different parts of the page to see how it comes out.

Yes, my server supports php, but I tried a include file instead of require_once. I'll try that and see how it works. Thanks for the help.

I have a Super Disk drive. It's like ZIP disks, only they're 120MB. It's USB and something else which might be SCSI. I could include 5+ 120MB Superdisks. This drive will also read 1.44MB Floppy Disks. The drive itself is an IMATION Super Disk Drive and is clear in color.

But it's only at a very intermediate level, nothing advanced like Java servlets, Cocoa, or .NET framework specific.

That sounds quite basic to me. Using the Java servlets API or the various Cocoa frameworks are hardly advanced.

Advanced programming is generally centred around writing your own unique software for which there are no existing solutions.

    1. Java (specifically Tomcat and Spring)
    2. Objective-C (Cocoa, iPhone)
    3. Ruby (Rails)

I know #1 and #3 are more web specific and might be beneficial because of my background in web development, but I really like the surge going on with Objective-C and the Mac and iPhone platforms. But would this help on a career level? I want to pick one where there's a strong demand for it and something that puts food on the table. I'm not talking about just writing apps for the app store, but writing apps for businesses that use Macs. It just seems like it's hard to land an entry or junior level job out therre without some type of experience. My main experience now is just education and I'd like to dig deeper into these frameworks out there that are used to work on a project that might gain me experience to show employers. Are there advantages to learning one framework over another or should I just pick one and go with it? I know Java and .NET are used a lot in the enterprise, but it seems like there's no shortages of these developers out there. Would learning a niche language like Objective-C or Ruby be an advantage since there are fewer experts in these languages? I'm open to any ideas or questions that people might have. Thanks.

My suggestion (since this is a subject I am very familiar with myself) would be to pick a language / framework and become as knowledgeable in that chosen framework as you can be. If you spend time contributing to the various mailing lists / forums / newsgroups of that framework people will notice you and you will be able to point to perspective employers showing them your expertise (and your enthusiasm as you will be doing this unpaid in your spare time obviously for a fair while). Also try and contribute code to the framework in question. Nothing shouts "expert" more than a code contributor to perspective employers (no matter if it is true or not).

Personally I tend to stick with C, Objective-C and Python (Django).
