Then you cannot display the "highest" resolution version of the media. Either none, or a resolution crippled version (ie 480p vs 1080i).

Usually I never encountered such a thing...
But that is exactly the point... 'Usually' is already no enough for a back-up medium.
The coaster rate for me is around 1:4 for the old burned CDs.
Just check your old CDs for fun. I am pretty sure you'll find some little surprises, also called 'read errors'... ;)
Sometimes just a few files are screwed, but if these files happen to be the file map in the root, the CD definitely has a new life as a coaster.. ;)

.Mac is a load of old BALLS!!! It's absolutely ridiculously. We're paying €99 in Europe really for Mail, iWeb was only added recently, but you have to buy iLife '06 to use it. iChat is free? No it's not! Guess what? You have to pay €99, cause you need .Mac to use iChat. The whole thing is a joke! Way to respect your loyal fans Apple.
/joke..
First thing apple could do is simple!! Bar this new, rarely useable addition (by me) every single thing about .Mac should stay the same!! Except one thing, PRICE, .Mac should be $29 in the US, and €29 in Europe. Then add more feature later next year.

What I mean is that people captured as part of the "war on terrorism" should be treat as you would treat prisoners of war and should not be tortured under any circumstances.
But the whole point is that in a "regular" war, we are far more likely to capture regular grunts or low level officers who have limited intelligence to provide.
Don't you think capturing KSM, who was one of the leaders of Al Qaeda is very different ? The guy obviously knows a great deal, and obviously will not easily divulge that information.

performance is question mark with a crap os like Window, and stop saying Windows 7 is good because it is not, it is just better than Vista... not hard eh?
Flash works? Flash is crap on every platform, the few on which can run on since it is proprietary, and as far as it makes sense it runs on mac os too so i don't see your point. Costs a less than a Mac Pro/iMac/MacBook pro is relative as always, even good PCs which you can build if you have some experience, will not have an impressive power/consumption ratio as most Macs, will not have multitouch, unibody, all in one design, FireWire800 (please don't say USB3 which is crap), and many other things. You are just evalutating what you thing are important for you. You are not smarter, stop embarassing yourself.
Sorry for my bad english.
Please for THE LOVE OF GOD STOP TALKING ABOUT LAPTOPS!!! If I ever buy a computer like an Alienware I would ONLY get a desktop. Now, I could build a computer wearing a blindfold in 1o minutes if I wanted, I spent 8 years in IT and built hundreds of computers. But I like the Aurora ALX so shoot me now for daring to like a PC!! I like it's design and case and I CANNOT buy that on anything else.
And I would be more then happy to not build a PC.
So are we clear on that? As for firewire, well if I ever used it maybe it would be a loss but seeing as EVERYTHING I plug into a computer is done so by USB then yeap, USB 3 FTW. And USB3 will get huge support.
I can have a powerful desktop that will make any iMac cry and I can play with it's insides as much as I want AND it IS cheaper then a Mac Pro.
As for the smarter bit, by God I'm a flipping damn site smarter then you are mate! I don't wake up every morning and pray to my Mac and posses the ability to buy what "I" like no matter the make!! I have the ability to like products regardless of others opinions rather then be a sheep. You may call it special, personally i call it being human..
Usually it is the opposite, one can't says an opinion without being marked as a fanboy by blind users like you. Even when you point they're wrong, you get the fanboy pin!! How sad are becoming online forums. I'm still laughing at the news about Apple opening hardware access for Adobe flash, a lot of retarded users cried "apple was the bad guy because adobe can't optimized flash without this".... when we got core image, core animation, core audio ecc. for years. Who want to bash see only what he wants to see, and think to be the smart one.
Go enjoy your Windows 7 Alienware, btw nice machine troll.
Good God, did you win the hypocrite of the year award? One sentance your talking about 'fanboys' and the next your calling me a troll :rolleyes: You go and worship your Apple mate.
I have no interest in buying anything at the moment, I need money and will getting some later in the year. And as for the Flash, well I'm pretty sure I never hard Ballamer bad publicly bad mouth Adobe, yet I get CONSTANT flash problems with my Mac OSX and that my sir is a FACT that you cannot change regardless of your opinions..
As for Windows 7, hmm, I've read plenty of people praising it on these forums and I also have it myself. Perhaps you should try it before bad mouthing it.
Anyway enough said, next time you reply to someone maybe you should READ what they are saying and respond with a fact that they don't have.

I wish Apple would make cheaper computers. I'm stuck with a $299 Hackintosh.
For the life of me, I cannot afford tuition and a $999 Macbook.
get a previous yr macbook(pro). cheaper and probably as fast for your needs.

What I've been waiting for is true javascript support for wysiwyg textarea editors. I run a Mac blog site and I have to ask users to use Firefox. It seems a little sucky to do that for a Mac specific blogger site. Since Safari 1.3 Apple said they included the nessesary "hooks" for these editors, but no one has been successful in getting any of them to work in Safari.
I downloaded the latest nightly build of Webkit and it still doen't work :(

They're idiots. Caught up in the "coolness" hype. Nothing more. And I don't consider weekend wedding photogs to be pros. I guarantee that any full time pro who needs to put food on the table does not depend on, much less condone the iPad to earn his/her keep.
Yeah, right. Like I'm going to be processing 30MB RAW files on a freaking 64gb Web browser.
LOL!
No. Proofing and this so called "manipulation" belongs in a lab where meticulous care can be devoted to delivering perfectly color balanced prints. Not a silly-assed iPad out in the field. And if said lab is out of reach then bring the lab with you in the form of something with more computing muscle.
in other words get the right tool for the job at hand and the iPad ain't it.
The iPad does nothing for me "in the field" that can't be achieved with a $99 portable DVD player used to show clients an enlarged preview. And photo journalists aren't allowed to use photoshop anyway.
No joke.
Look I'm all for new additions to the line of productivity apps for iOS products, but if someone walked into my studio touting their iPad with Photoshop or any other drawing, painting, video or audio app as a production station, I would laugh them right out the door. Do people seriously have any idea how big some of these files get? Not to mention the horse power that is needed to maintain a reasonable working interface? "Oh I can zoom in and do this, zoom out and do that..." Then they have no idea what timely productivity and deadlines are all about.
In the current form this does not cut it on a professional level. It may get there, but not anytime soon.

MattG,
Regarding your item #1. Notes is this way because of SECURITY. When an ID is created it contains encryption keys. This is what allows it to communicate with the notes server and also secure data. IF the user chooses to encrypt their data, like e-mail, then without that ID the data is safe. End of discussion. Even the administrator can't get to it. Notes is a highly secure envoirnment. You don't hear stories or people hacking the notes server, or getting spyware, or any of that Exchange business...
Security is the opposite of convenience. Now if the user in question did NOT take advantage of encrypting data then your notes "fangirl" could have simply deleted the user from the address book, created the user again with the same name and it would have worked fine which is what she ended up doing.. The reason why the name change caused a problem is because the backup ID wasn't updated at the same time - which is ok at long as you store your history of changes in the admin4 database. That change was probably very old and purged from the database. Regarding ID's what some companies do - mine included is store all the users ID's with a default password in a secure place - give the users copies and force them to change their password. Obviously there's a huge problem with this. Whoever stores these ID's has the keys to the kingdom - including being able to get to encrypted information. We chose to add some convenience at the cost of security in this case. Certainly the user did NOTHING wrong! One way or the other it should have been a 15 minute fix.
Sorry, but that's just stupid (not what you said, but the fact that it's like that). If you've got the enviroment setup correctly, then it's already secure and only the administrator should be able to log in as one and regenerate an ID anyway. If it's setup securely, then I'm the only one who should have access to it, and I should be able to do it. Period. It doesn't need to be so secure that the administrator can't administrate.
Also there is a built in method for password recovey of notes id file - but I'm more a developer so I haven't messed with that. It does need to be setup ahead of time I think.
We've tried to make this work a number of times and have been unsuccessful. Again, this should be an easy thing to do. All of the security-overkill that Domino turns on by default should be optional. If this were a government agency, it'd be one thing. We're a small private college. Our email server should be secure but it doesn't have to be Fort Knox. I should be able to change a password as an administrator more easily.
Regarding item 3. You can easily see who's accessing a domino server by using the notes log (log.nsf). Wether it's the client or browser all access is recorded. Look under usage by user. Only the people who are using the sever will show up in this list. Typically data is only stored for 5-6 days but this can be changed. You can also go into any database and via the property screen get all the activity detail from there.
Again, this does not show accesses via iNotes. When I list by user, it only shows the people accessing using Notes IDs and the Notes client, which is our administrators, not students. See the attached picture...there's 7 users listed there, and they are all admins and servers. I need to see accesses via iNotes. And, I need to go back a year, so even if this method did work we'd be talking thousands of accounts that I need to get last-opened dates on. Looking it up this way would be tedious. I need to export a list and this information simply does not exist.
Regarding your specific need. You should be able to get a pretty good idea of the last login time of a user in the person documents last updated field. I think that's updated daily.
The 'last updated' field shows when the person doc was last updated by an Administrator. I tried that already...believe me.
I know Notes/Domino has a lot of upsides, but in my opinion, the difficulty of doing simple tasks as mentioned above makes the bad outweigh the good.
