You are quite mistake, this second preview is near feature complete. It needs some polishing, but for the most part it's nearly ready to be shipped.
The first preview had a lot of major bugs. It may be near feature complete, but I agree that they need to spend time and ensure the IDE is stable before they make a GM.

Hold down SHIFT, turn it on,
wait till the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen disapears
then it should loadup without the extensions
yeah it never says that all i get on startup is a little icon

You'll probably get different answers but my opinion would be that unless the game requires it, don't upgrade to a later system.
^^^ I agree with this. I'm not a big fan of running 8.x on 68K hardware.
For vintage gear, I like to stick to OS versions close to what the Mac shipped with (if it were me, I'd downgrade the 575 to 7.1). Any non-rare Mac from the G3 down can be had for next to nothing these days, so if you have an app that requires 8.0, I'd go grab a machine more suitable to run it. Then again, I'm always looking for an excuse to bring home another machine. :p

I think the opportunity to renumber was back in the 10.4 or 10.5 range. 10.6 was little more than a performance tweak. But little by little, we drift farther and farther away from that 10.0 experience. Maybe Lion, with more touchiness, will warrant a new number. But "XI" just doesn't look as cool as "X" does.
True though I thought that 10.3 should have been 11 and 10.5 should have been 12. I am glad we are drifting further from the 10.0 experience there were virtually no programs supported. I tried using 10.0 and 10.1 on my G4 but stuck with 9 until 10.2 when performance was on par and most every program was available for OS X.
Though I think we are still on OS X since Jobs said it would stay that way until 2020. He'll be damned to make it XI just to prove he was right;).

Just to alleviate everyone's concerns, this issue is NOT present in the Panther preview. I tried setting a 9-character password, and the login window did not take the 8-character version.

In my view I don't see a problem with apple telling us more about this product.
Well that's all well and good, but what do you want us to do about it? Nobody who knows any further info is willing to talk.

The Zalman has a back that fully encloses the fans. From the pics, the CoolerMaster does not. My experience with another design that did not enclose the fans was that the wiring eventually got snagged on something and the fans no longer received power as a result.
I think you'd be pleased with the Zalman's build quality. I know I am.

I Have not installed the last update yet, but, if battery life were to improve as much as people say with every update, people would only have to charge their iPhones once a month...

This has been very helpful to me, thanks! My iMac will arrive in June, but I'm trying to get ready for fast-tracking the migration.
In my case, I plan to have most of my data files on the 2TB hard drive, but some data files on the SSD. For example, my Aperture library (which will reference most of the images) will likely benefit from the speed, so will be on the SSD.
So where should I be putting my Home Folder? And how will the home folder know about subfolders being on a different drive? Do I set up aliases? I have not used aliases, but I'm happy to do what it takes! :)
Thanks.

No, see that's the problem. I can't figure out how to forward request to IP #2 to the server on the alternate ports.
It always goes to the server on port 80 (apache).
What I need to figure out is how to get the request on that 2nd IP to forward to the alternate ports (where the ruby server is running).

OK, to avoid problems when handling old PPC-Mac DV files on an Intel Mac it might be the safest way to just wait for the new Mac and do it on it from the start.
[quote:]It's the newer versions of iMovie that "do stuff" to your video on import.[quote/:]
whether it "does" good or bad to it, might be another question someone who uses iMovie may perhaps have to answer to me, I guess...

Apple already has a split-system.
They sell this year's phone for one price and last year's phone for a much cheaper price.
I don't see any reason why they'd give that up and start selling 2 brand-new models at different prices. I don't understand what that gains them over the current system. Any blog that says there will be a 'pro model' but doesn't explain how that's better than the current system doesn't count much in my opinion.

I just had to post to tell everyone how much I love this thing. How can anyone live with a one button mouse?
I has three buttones on the left side of the mouse for your thumb. I have these set for one to go forward/next/page down and one to go backward/previous/page up and then the middle one to flip between pages that are open within one application. Makes browsing macrumors and multiple threads fast especially with the scroll wheel on the top.
And then you can click the scroll whell, I have that programed for expose to only show the desktop.
And then wait, still two more buttons. One of the buttons on the scroll wheel I have programmed to expose all windows and the other to show all the windows in one application. What is that like 6 buttons?

Anyway, there was much buzz about this video a while back and how Apple supposedly held the patents rights on this.

....It would be best to wait until this Summer for the next OS upgrade to come out (10.7 aka Lion) otherwise you'll be looking at an OS upgrade cost to you in the future.
Perhaps Lion will cost relatively little, such as the Snow Leopard upgrade.

But does doing that make your iPhone SIM no longer work in your iPhone? I just want to be able to use my iPhone SIM in the iPad as I please so I don't have to tether using MyWi all the time. (This is for an iPad 2 by the way.)
I don't think that's possible anymore.
MyWi with on demand is very convenient and does not use that much battery.

I went to the Covent Garden store today and the employee(s) I spoke to said that the store will 'most probably' open at 8am instead of 9am next Friday for the launch *g*
What time were you planning on arriving? :)
