OMG what is hard to understand? Either a new book bag or a case. I don't want another freaking messenger bag. I already have that (as I stated in the first post and re-iterated in my first reply).

Seriously people, I appreciate the help but read before you rush to hit the reply button. Even if you completely ignore my repeated comments that I don't want another messenger bag (either a BOOK bag or CASE), you're suggesting a bag for the 11" MBA when I said in the title I have a 13". Why not just tell me what kind of car you drive instead, it's about an equally worthless piece of information (in regards to this thread).

There could be other reasons its only working after a restart... That's why I was looking for another answer besides one reply...

So unless you have no input be on your way..

What if I needed my computer and couldn't have it gone for a week for some ****** superdrive...

It's pretty pathetic I pay 1000+ for this Macbook, and a month later the cheap ass cd drive fails.

don't even go there. :o I went out and bought Bullet Witch & SSX Blur today :rolleyes: That on top of Motorstorm PS3 arriving in the post :D :rolleyes: :D I'm not sure if I'm a gamer or addicted to shopping :D

You need to start your own rental service and recoup some of those gaming funds; you'll probably turn a profit in a week's time with all the games you've been getting lately mate. ;)

These are scams. The sellers always seem to be in Spain or England for some reason and will send you the item after you use their escrow service, which of course is a fraud. If it's too good to be true, it's almost always a scam. Cavaet Emptor.

Even before I ordered my mac I knew I would need extension cables for the ACD because I read posts on how short the monitor's cables were and also saw it in the local Apple store. I contacted Dr. Bott to confirm their mDP cable supported audio passthrough.

FWIW: I bought my Dr. Bott cables from here:

I got it from Mac-Pro because (a) they were hard to get at the time (even Dr. Bott itself didn't have any, which apparently is the case even now -- just checked the 2m on their site (http://www.drbott.net/product/9378-MDEB/)) and (b) I found a bunch at Mac-Pro which is fairly close to where I live. Heh, the price there now looks a buck or two cheaper then I paid at the time!

Editorial: Many of the ads for these kind of cables are, IMO, incomplete since they also come with USB. So when they advertise the cable supports audio (generally they say "Audio and video passthrough" if they say anything at all) you can't tell for sure if the mDP supports audio in addition to the USB which of course supports audio. So what I do when faced with ambiguities is contact the manufacturers directly.

At least Monoprice, my preferred (first choice) place for ordering cables, is honest to say up front that their mDP cables don't support audio. They're a great place to order cables if the cables fulfill you needs.


thanks for your help. I just got a 2010 quad which i will upgrade the cpu to a hex in a month or so. I also got a 27acd .. nice monitor .. kinda miss the 30acd i used to have but decided to get the 27 instead. I have no idea why apple makes these cables so damn short. I might pick up a second monitor so i guess i will need two sets.

Setting my computer to never sleep didn't fix it. I'm not really interested in using another program. TM should work. I'm a little stubborn and once I get something stuck in my craw I just want it to work, but on top of that, I actually LIKE the way TM works (when it works).

It seems like I can consistently get a backup to run right after a reboot but it will inevitably fail after that first backup runs. I've reformatted the drive with no fix other than generating an extremely long initial backup. I've got two drives for offsite rotation and the error occurs with both. The drives weren't bought at the same time and aren't out of the same batch (in fact one is a WD Black and the other is a WD Green) so I'm not thinking its a disk issue.

My computer is less than 90 days old. Should I call Apple?

I bought two of these, one for me, one for my wife. In a random fashion, either the left ear or the right ear will "go deaf". Occasionally both ears will "go deaf". My wife's jack is so loose that it simply separates from the nano with the slightest movement! I get the same problems when I use my Bose earphones. The reason seems to be that the audio jack ports on this product have been manufactured without adequate attention to quality control. Short of returning the nanos, can you think of a solution?
